Who is Keith Brymer Jones

Keith Brymer Jones was born and raised in London. He is a potter by profession.

People in Great Britain know him as a juror on TV shows like Great Pottery, Throw Down, and The Victorian House of Arts & Crafts, but his real job and passion are ceramics.

The first piece of pottery he ever made was a pottery owl when he was 11 years old. The process of pottery gave him a sense of escapism. It was clear to him that he wanted to become a potter, and after a brief stint as the lead singer of a punk band (!), he became an apprentice at Harefield Pottery in London at the age of 18.

After his training, he began in his first studio in Highgate, where he handcrafted all his ceramics for a variety of retailers such as Conran, Habitat, Barneys NY, Monsoon, Laura Ashley, and Heals.

About 25 years ago, he first began developing the Word Range for Keith Brymer Jones tableware. Words originally attracted him because of their shape. The Word Range has produced over 500 products and is sold in more than forty countries.

Keith Brymer Jones - Ceramics from London

Jones grew up in an artistic family and discovered his passion for craftsmanship early on. After spending some time as a musician in a punk band, he eventually decided to devote himself entirely to pottery. He began his career at Harefield Pottery and worked there for many years as a designer and production manager. It was there that he also developed his trademark - the Word Range ceramics featuring various words like "Love," "Tea," or "Coffee." In 2008, Jones finally founded his own studio called Keith Brymer Jones Ceramics Ltd., where he continues to work successfully to this day. His writing style is convincing through clear formulations as well as precise descriptions of facts and contexts.

Creative Designs Collaborations and Work Life

Keith Brymer Jones's day in his studio starts early in the morning. Keith likes to begin at dawn, when the sun rises and the view of the sea is still clear and untouched. Usually, he drinks coffee from a Keith Brymer Jones mug and does a bit of paperwork before starting work.

Then he goes to his workbench with a list of Keith Brymer Jones products, where he designs each item by hand. He loves to immerse himself in the design of each product and develop it day by day. Sometimes the designer is so absorbed in his work for hours that he doesn't even notice how quickly time passes.

In addition, as Head of Design at MAKE International, he leads the development of new forms for other designers/illustrators/creators - a great opportunity for him to collaborate with the best minds in the industry! This part of his job is especially enjoyable for him, as he constantly has new ideas and creates innovative designs. 

Keith Brymer Jones in his own words: When the day is over, I am always happy about everything I have achieved and ready for a new day! My studio in Whitstable has become my home, and here I can be creative and pursue my profession as a designer. It is exciting every time to see what comes out at the end of the day – both regarding myself and the other designers/illustrators/creators. It is wonderful to see how our designs can help transform a brand or a space!
